MISSION STATEMENT

IN MEMORY OF OUR BELOVED RESCUE BULLDOGS THAT HAVE JOURNEYED TO
         THE  RAINBOW BRIDGE.

hope.jpg

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Maggie was a resident at Shady Paws. She went there because her family has a child who has been battleing cancer. She was lovingly cared for by Andrea Dayton.

curtie.jpg
This boy was with my Dad over 4 years, he lived to be 13 1/2 .Curtis was smart and funny, and very lively to the end. He was a 'short term' foster who 'stuck'.It is very different here without him.Old as he was he was always delighted to meet any young female rescue who came in.We adopted him out once, the unbelievably stupid vet convinced the woman to remove ( he was 9) his nose wrinkle! Then she returned him! We miss him.

George and Mugsey spent their final years at LIBR's rest home, Shady Paws, in the loving care of Andrea Dayton. These two 'Grumpy Old Men' loved to 'hate' each other, and we knew that when Mugsey left, George would not be too far behind. George followed his old buddy less than 2 weeks later.Mugsey was 13 1/2, and George was around 12. We also lost Sarge, who was supposed to live around 3 weeks when we got him from a shelter ( he lived another year and a half), and Daphne, who was found living under a highway overpass. I lost their pictures in a computer crash. They will all be missed.

This is Floyd, our volunteer Annie's first dog.He passed away in her arms 9/6/08. He was 14, he was deeply loved.

RILEY, 12 yrs old, was adored by the Lorenzini Family, including Bulldog"sister" Katy. Riley was adopted from LIBR many years ago. Recently he was a foster "Grandpa" to: Mugsy and Maddie, Lola, Blue,Marty, and most recently Max. Just last week he broke up a fight between Marty and Max, and with a big paw on each of them instructed them to knock it off. He will be greatly missed.

Gunny (My Boy, Buddy, Stinks, Old Man, Handsome)

We never said this to you when you were with us, because the three of
us never had to… We love and miss you so much. When we first rescued
you, we saw this tired old dog with obvious health problems. What we
lost was the most loyal, unique, loving animal either of us had ever
met. You came in with your charm and personality and took control of
our lives.  We will never be the same after this and that is because
we will never meet another you.

We miss your endless amount of slobber that you had when it was time
for your meds, we miss the random passing of gas (regardless of who
was at the receiving end), and we miss your grumpiness when you
couldn't have your own cushion on the couch. But most of all, we miss
your smile, that sparkle in your eye, and those hugs and kisses just
for Dad that made us know that you felt the same way about us as we
did for you.

You are off to a better place now, Buddy. One where there are other
Bullies and one where the food bowls are filled with treats and the
water is flavored like beef. Go eat, be happy, and if you think of it,
remember Mom and Dad.

It is with an extremely heavy heart that I am writing to tell
you at the grand old age of 9 Jake passed on. He died very happily; he
was playing his favorite game of tug of war.He collapsed, we rushed him to the Emergency Vet, they tried  everything they could, but alas, there was nothing they could do.
This week has probably been the saddest I've ever had - Jake was my
first dog, and I don't think I realized what a brilliant dog he was
until he'd gone. I am consoling myself knowing that for the last two
years of his life he had a great time; we never stopped playing and he
certainly never grew tired of having his ears and belly rubbed.

A nobleman by birth, a loyalist by upbringing, a friend in deed, and a family member by love. Your Mom & Dad think of you everyday. Your journey is done, and your mission of joy was accomplished.

You left us so fast, we know you had a bed made for you, and you were ready to go. Fare thee well, and sleep soundly our Bull.

The world has become a bit emptier this weekend with the passing of Lucille Marie Cerni our 12yr old matriarch. Lucy was our first rescue and survived a couple of major surgeries including a tail amputation and pyometria. Lucy had survived the passing of Colt Michael her Fila Brasileiro companion of 9 years and Elvis another bulldog rescue who also was taken before his time. Lucy is and will always be the quintessential bulldog with a heart of gold and a stubborn streak a mile wide. If you had the pleasure of knowing her you were lucky. If you didn’t, then you missed out on one hell of a bulldog. Lucy is survived by her parents Suzanne and John and her brother Jesse James. To our Lucy: never far from us and forever in our hearts, we love you!

It was December 17, 2006 that we lost our adorable baby girl due to an accident. Even though she was only 3 years old, it was her time. It is said that a little boy or girl in heaven needs her right now. We miss her very much, and wish that we could see her again. We have buried Rosie in our backyard, as well as our hearts. We visit her every day, and we all can say that we enjoy talking to her. We know for a fact that she misses us too, but when it’s our time, we will all get to see our beloved baby girl again. She was the neighborhood mascot, and all the kids would run to our porch on their way back from school to go visit Rosie who would let herself out knowing that the kids would soon be there. She would flip herself over for all the kids to rub her tummy. She loved that! She also used to bark at her own reflection. This baby had the funniest bark or gargle. What we mean by gargle is that when she would bark, it would sound like she was gargling. We miss her so much, and one day we will reunite and live the rest of our lives together. Until then, she will remain in our thoughts all the time, and we will at least have our memories. I can say that Rosie is the best thing that ever happened to me. Nothing and no one can replace our Rosie. May she be in our thoughts forever. We love you Rosie!

This is Mr. Magoo, my dear friend. He was ten years old when he passed on on November 9th , 2005. My heart still misses him. Everyone in the neighborhood knew Mr. Magoo. He would sit outside like a statue. He loved the sun, even though they usually don't like the heat. He'd be right by the door. I love you & miss you Mr. Magoo. so does Petunia, your "better " half. Love, your family, the Meoni's

Butch was adopted through LIBR in July of 2000 - sadly, we only had 5 years with him. He was my BEST friend and taught me how to *really* love a dog. I will always be grateful for the time we spent together - "May you rest in peace - until we meet again." XOXOX Mommy
